Sink Or Swim
Paw Parent Needs Your Help To Keep Swimming
Paw Parent is sinking! Will you help?
Taking a moment to reflect back over the 16 years of working with friends, generous donors and dedicated staff to rescue animals in need, I must say that, while raising funds to make this all possible has never been easy, it has gotten much more difficult this year. 2024 has been a tough year for everyone in rescue, and I’m not alone in worrying how to keep it all afloat!
But it's the innocent pets that have gotten hit the hardest. Too many are surrendered, abandoned and thrown away like trash, often in the desert near us in 100-degree heat. Paw Parent has been scrambling to help as many of the desperate pleas as we can, but unfortunately, most often we have to say no. And while this breaks our hearts, we just don't have the space to house them all.
What makes matters a lot worse is funding that by comparison seems to have come easily in the years before has all but dried up. For many reasons grant support we relied upon has disappeared. And while grants for animal rescue are always sparse, usually project-oriented and highly competitive, we identified and applied to several foundations this year, but have not received any funding.
Always prudent in managing finances, Paw Parent has been surviving off a nest egg put aside for rainy days. But now that cushion is dwindling fast and I spend every day seeking ways to replenish it.
If we cannot raise the necessary funds to keep our operations running at current levels, we will have to let some of our dedicated staff go, which in turn means we have to drastically reduce the number of dogs and cats in our care. That then leads to our being able to rescue even fewer desperate souls.
The outcome of this campaign determines the future of Paw Parent! We are truly at that moment of Sink or Swim.
That is why I created this special campaign called Sink Or Swim, which will end October 31st.
At the barest minimum, Paw Parent must raise $25,000 to ensure continued operations at our current level and our Sink or Swim Campaign must succeed. To look into the trusting eyes of our charges, knowing that should we fail, their futures are uncertain; not to mention the dismal fates of the many we can no longer help at all, is beyond belief.
Yet we must be realistic, and for the best of all concerned, we can’t sugar-coat or pretend. This is a real crisis and we will meet it head-on.
We’ve managed all these years; we can’t give up now!
Help Paw Parent Swim to a Safe and Steady Shore!!
And thank you for your most generous support!
